WAH!

Journal Entry: Wed May 19, 2010, 8:44 AM
Facebook l Gallery l dA Portfolio l Watch Me l Note Me

I don't like to be negative about changes, because I know it always takes some time to adjust to things, but - no, I don't like what the new layout does to the default view of my pictures. Supposedly v7 is meant to showcase your art better, but look what it does to my clean lineart! The pictures look all pixellated. They are far too small to look good :cries:. This is not funny. I don't know how they look on a larger screen, but my screen is a regular one and it's a sorry sight. I mean, look at this!

Seriously, dA. We are not amused.

Apart from the simply esthetical viewpoint - in which I absolutely agree, with you, Sigune - I find that for bad-sighted people like me, this "moving about" feature until the image is properly visible is just a pain in the ass - and likely to cause headache or even migraine on a bad day. I also experience a significant slowing of the proper display of images - and I have a very fast system and best available internet connection, too. Right now it feels like back in the good ole' 28.8 modem times...
To be honest, browsing through DA now just became several degrees less interesting and agreeable than before. I don't WANT to have the full view of every image when I browse, I want a good thumbnail! And as the images are even slower in loading now, there is no improvement I can see.

Have you seen any improvement over the last few days? I'm getting used to the whole thing alarmingly fast - and this while still feeling that the lousy thumbnails are totally unacceptable -_-.

I was under the impression that site visibility for people with bad sight was getting increasingly important to web designers, but apparently not to dA...

"Have you seen any improvement over the last few days? I'm getting used to the whole thing alarmingly fast" - not really, referring to both questions. I must confess that I have lost much of my enthusiasm of browsing on dA and coming here. Lately, I have looked into my messages about new uploads, but haven't even looked at all of them. I used to come to dA late at night for a bit of chilling before bed. But at this time, my eyes are already tired and start to water because I need to concentrate so hard in order to see properly.

No, not really.

I just don't understand the reason for changing - did dA member ask for a change? I don't think so. And they could at least announce changes before applying them.

As for pixellation, I notice the same problem here on my laptop, and it was exactly the same viewing it through a Mac this afternoon. :P

Heh. From what I understand, the change is not so much member-driven as cost-driven...

I am prepared to go through the pain of adjusting to change, if I see some real benefits that come with the change. This one has all the pain and no gain. The new layout of the picture on the page without a title on top is off center and wonky-looking. I always fat-finger the new navigation with the drop-down menus dropping down when I don't want them to, the messages and the watched deviations are now jumbled together into one number up top, and the few pixels we've supposed to have gained to better watch art are really lost on me - I have a laptop not a darn HDTV sized computer screen!

*g* I hear you on that - I have a 21" screen, but still I can't really see any difference...

As needed and useful as a third nipple this whole thing, I tell you!

ETA: I've just been looking over how your drawing of Skrållan looks now - and am shocked. It's so blurred you won't believe it... *facepalm* What was that about the added pixels? They seem to have taken some pixels from every work on dA and scattered them around on some other works, leaving out others... *bangs head*
