The comic - new pages

Thu Apr 27, 2006, 8:58 AM
I had been saying for some time that I'd start posting my Snape comic here - well, this is the day :D. I have been posting pages one up to six at my LJ ( [link] ), also with 'Making Of'. I'm not going to re-post those 'Making Of' bits here - I refer you to my journal if you're interested; just follow the 'comic' tags.

The comic is based on Chapter Eighteen, Wormtail, Moony, Padfoot and Prongs of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - more specifically on the last few paragraphs in which Lupin informs us of what in fandom has become known as 'the Prank' played by the Marauders on Snape. I am by no means a professional comics artist and haven't actually got a lot of time to work on the story intensively. As a result, a lot of time goes by between the drawing of the individual pages, and I think you will see the development of my style. I started the comic in the late spring of 2004. It should run up to some twenty pages of continuing story.

I am aware of the comic's shortcomings. As I said, I'm not professional, and I think my highly amateurish techniques show :). The greatest weakness probably lies in the storytelling. I know how to tell a story, but I haven't been using a fixed scenario; that could have been a lot better, I think. The problem is that I absolutely wanted to get drawing and tell a tale in pictures; I should have taken more time to think the tale out... Anyway - I hope you may find it entertaining nevertheless. I still love making it.

It's nothing spectacular, actually :D. I'm so not the spectacular type... But you will find out who these people are, and they do push the plot forward ;).

Coming, coming... :)

I'm so glad you like it! I was much in awe of your tutorial on shading; I don't know nearly enough about how to do it decently. There is this quaint cut-and-paste effect in my drawings... Anyway, I'm going to keep your tutorial at the back of my head for future projects!

*smiles* I feel honored it gives you some advice for the shading - I needed several years to get the point with black/white shading, and this comic must have been a good help to discover your skills a bit more. This was the way I worked on my skills.
