Black and White

My submission for #Spinners--End's contest "The Beauty Within Snape".

For me, Snape's beauty lies in the fact that he looks like the cliché of an evil wizard and is generally painted in a very black way - literally. And in the end, he is completely whitewashed as "the bravest man I ever knew". The irony (for me) is that in fact he is neither black nor white, but grey.

Personally I also find a literal sort of beauty in Snape. The books are at such pains to describe him as ugly, with his large hooknose, greasy black hair, sallow skin and crooked, yellow teeth, that I feel he becomes iconic and a perfect type. He is ugly in a fantastic way, and so becomes beautiful again.
